Chin Na, also Qin Na, is a system of techniques to control or lock an opponent's joints or muscles/tendons, thus preventing their movement and neutralizing their fighting ability. Although there are a great number of individual techniques, they share fundamental underlying principles. As students gain experience with the techniques through practice, they will gradually develop a more thorough understanding of these principles and begin to be able to adapt and modify techniques to suit the situation. |
Unlike wrestling or grappling, where weight and muscle strength are important factors, control over the application of Chin Na techniques is more subtle in nature. Because of this, a smaller person could more easily incapacitate a larger opponent by using Chin Na. |
