Chinese
Chin Na, also Qin Na, is a system of techniques to control
or lock an opponent's joints or muscles/tendons, thus
preventing their movement and neutralizing their fighting
ability. Although there are a great number of individual
techniques, they share fundamental underlying principles.
As students gain experience with the techniques through
practice, they will gradually develop a more thorough
understanding of these principles and begin to be able to
adapt and modify techniques to suit the situation.
Unlike wrestling or grappling, where weight and muscle
strength are important factors, control over the
application of Chin Na techniques is more subtle in
nature. Because of this, a smaller person could more
easily incapacitate a larger opponent by using Chin Na.
